Basic Of Pentaho Schema Workbench (PSW)

Hey Guys,

In this post i am explaining the basic knowledge of Pentaho Schema Workbench.

Introduction :

  • Allows you to create and test mondrian OLAP cube schemas visually
  • Mondrian engine processes MDX requests with ROLAP schemas
  • These schema files are XML metadata models that are created in a specific structure used by the Mondrian engine.
  • These XML models can be considered cube-like structures which utilize existing FACT and DIMENSION tables found in your RDBMS

  Functionality:
  • Schema editor integrated with the underlying data source for validation.
  • Test MDX queries against schema and database
  • Browse underlying databases structure

Installation:

  • Unzip the Workbench into a directory.
  • Include your cube database’s JDBC driver in the drivers directory, so the Workbench can use it.
  • Start the Workbench by running “workbench.bat” (Windows) or “workbench.sh” (for Unix/Linux) where you installed.
